What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the reading from the sensor on the catalytic converter with a calculated value. The code is set when the signal is faulty, which is an electrical fault where the voltage in the circuit is too low. The cause may be a shorted signal wire, a break, poor contact or a damaged sensor.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged temperature sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connections
- Break in the signal wire
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connector to the temperature sensor on the catalytic converter for oxidation and loose contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no break and is not shorted to ground
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to supply voltage when the ignition is off
- 5Clear the code and start the engine to see whether it returns
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensor and the signal wire
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
