What does this fault code mean?
This code concerns exhaust camshaft (B) on bank 1. It is set when the camshaft angle during warm-up after a cold start sits further back than the requested position. The cause may be the oil quality, the oil pressure, or a fault in the control valve or the VVT unit.
Possible causes
- Poor engine oil quality
- Low oil pressure
- Damaged control valve for the exhaust camshaft
- Damaged VVT unit
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the engine oil is clean, of the right quality and free from contamination
- 2Have a workshop check the oil pressure, as low oil pressure can affect the camshaft position
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the exhaust camshaft position in live data during warm-up and see whether it follows the requested position
- 4Clear the code and road test the car with the engine cold to see whether it returns
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control valve and the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice4
- Uneven idle
- Reduced performance
- The eco lamp is on
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
