What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the brake pedal and its switches. The code is set when the secondary brake pedal switch shows that the brake is pressed while the brake pressure is low and the car is accelerating. The fault may lie in the switches and their wiring, or in the brake control module (BCM).
Possible causes
- Loose connection or contact resistance in the brake pedal switches
- Short to supply voltage
- Short to ground
- Break in the wire to the brake pedal switches
- Diagnose the cause in the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the brake control module (BCM) and repair them first
- 2Check that the brake pedal switches are secure and have no play or oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the brake pedal switches has no break and is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the brake pedal signals in live data while the pedal is pressed and released
- 5Do not work on the braking system yourself; if the fault returns, have a workshop check it with diagnostic equipment
