What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the vacuum pressure sensor, which measures the negative pressure in the brake booster, and reads the voltage from its analogue signal. The code is set when the signal wire between the sensor and the ECM is shorted to ground or has a break. The fault may also be poor contact in the connector, or a damaged sensor or module.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Break in the signal wire
- Damaged vacuum pressure sensor
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the vacuum pressure sensor connector is secure and not oxidized
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the vacuum pressure sensor has no break and is not shorted to ground
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the vacuum pressure in live data with the engine running and see whether the value is steady
- 4Clear the code and start the engine to see whether it returns
- 5Do not work on the brake booster yourself; if the fault returns, have a workshop check the vacuum pressure sensor and the engine control module with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice4
- An unusual noise is heard at idle
- An unusual noise is heard while driving
- Warning symbol and message in the display
- Automatic engine start/stop does not work, both while driving and at idle
What the fault can affect3
- The brake vacuum pump runs all the time
- The module uses a vacuum value that corresponds to no vacuum
- Automatic engine start/stop is switched off
