What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the vacuum pressure sensor that measures the vacuum in the brake booster. The fault is stored when the module sees that the signal from the sensor is too high, which here is because the signal wire is shorted to supply voltage. The module then works with a pressure equal to zero, which switches off the automatic engine start/stop function.
Possible causes
- Loose connection or oxidation in the connector to the vacuum pressure sensor
- The signal wire is shorted to supply voltage
- The vacuum pressure sensor is damaged
- The engine control module (ECM) is damaged
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connector at the vacuum pressure sensor for loose contact and oxidation, and look for chafed wiring
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no connection to supply voltage when the connector is unplugged
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment: read the vacuum pressure in live data and check that the value follows changes in brake booster vacuum
- 5If the connector and wiring are sound, have a workshop check the vacuum pressure sensor and control module. The fault affects the brake system, so have a workshop put it right soon
Symptoms you may notice5
- Unusual noise at idle
- Unusual noise while driving, hard to tell when it occurs
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- Automatic engine start/stop does not work while driving
- Automatic engine start/stop does not work at idle
What the fault can affect2
- The brake vacuum pump runs all the time
- The automatic engine start/stop function is switched off
