What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named brake booster pressure sensor, it applies to the brake pedal switches. The ECM checks the brake pedal and sets the code when one of the switches signals no braking, while brake pressure is high and the pedal is released. The fault therefore shows a conflict in the signals from the brake pedal switches.
Possible causes
- Loose contact or contact resistance in the brake pedal switches
- Short circuit to supply voltage or to ground
- Open circuit in the wiring to the brake pedal switches
- The fault may lie in the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the brake pedal moves freely and does not stick or catch on anything under the pedal
- 3Check the connectors at the brake pedal switches for loose contact and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the switches has no open circuit or short to ground
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment: read the brake pedal switch states in live data and check that they change when the pedal is pressed and released
- 6If the wiring and connectors are sound, have a workshop look for the fault in the brake control module, since it concerns the brake system
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not engage
