What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the system voltage and sets the code when the voltage is wrongly low. The causes can lie in the generator, the charging system or the battery, but also in contact resistance in connectors and connections.
Possible causes
- Problem with the generator
- Faulty charging system
- Damaged battery
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connectors and connections
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the battery terminals and connections for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check the other connectors and connections in the charging circuit for looseness and oxidation
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment: read the system voltage in live data with the engine running and compare it with the value when the engine is stopped
- 5If the connections are clean and tight, have a workshop check the generator and battery
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine is hard to start and the starter motor cranks slowly, hard to tell when it happens
- The engine does not start, hard to tell when it happens
