What does this fault code mean?

The ECM receives the information about the cruise control buttons from the central electronics module (CEM) over CAN and checks that it is reasonable. Each message should carry a sequence number that counts up, and here the number does not match. The code is set when the information from the CEM is faulty or unreasonable.

    Possible causes

    • The fault may lie in the central electronics module (CEM)

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact
    2. 2If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault codes in the central electronics module (CEM) and deal with them first
    3. 3Test the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel and check that they spring back and do not stick
    4. 4Check that the connectors to the central electronics module (CEM) are firmly seated and not corroded
    5. 5If none of the checks shows anything, have a workshop look for the fault in the central electronics module (CEM)

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Cruise control does not engage
    • Cruise control does not hold the set speed and disengages

    What the fault can affect1

    • Cruise control is switched off while the fault is active

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
