What does this fault code mean?
The central electronics module (CEM) reads the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel and sends the information to the engine control module (ECM) over CAN. The code is set when the information about the button status is plainly wrong or not reasonable. The causes are a damaged steering wheel button assembly, or an open circuit or short circuit in the CAN wires.
Possible causes
- Damaged steering wheel button assembly
- Open circuit or short circuit in the CAN wires
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Test the buttons on the steering wheel and check that they return fully and are not damaged
- 3Check the connectors and wiring to the steering wheel button assembly for chafing and loose connections
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment: read the CEM fault codes and deal with them first. Do not clear this code until then
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no open circuit or short to each other or to ground
- 6If the above shows nothing, have a workshop locate the fault
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect2
- Cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
- The speed limiter is not available
