What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the signal from the brake pedal sensor. The fault is stored when there is interference in the brake pedal sensor signal, when the brake light switch is activated without a matching signal from the brake pedal sensor, or when the brake pedal sensor reports a fault over CAN.
Possible causes
- Brake pedal sensor incorrectly fitted
- Faulty CAN communication
- Damaged brake pedal sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the brake pedal sensor is correctly fitted
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) and deal with them first. This code can only be cleared once they have been dealt with
- 4Look at the connectors at the brake pedal sensor for loose or oxidised connections
- 5Press the brake pedal down and release it slowly and check that the brake lights come on and go off as they should
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the brake pedal sensor, since the fault concerns the brake system
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
