What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives information about the brake pedal position over the CAN network. The brake pedal switch status comes from the central electronics module (CEM), and the brake pedal position sensor status comes from the brake control module (BCM). The code is set when the signal from the CEM or the BCM is missing or faulty.
Possible causes
- Faulty brake pedal position sensor
- Faulty brake pedal switch
- Open circuit in the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment: read the CEM fault codes and deal with them first, then clear this code
- 3Check that the connectors at the brake pedal and the brake pedal position sensor are firmly seated and not corroded
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no open circuit
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the brake pedal position sensor and switch, as the brake system is involved
Symptoms you may notice2
- Automatic engine start does not happen
- Cruise control does not work at all
