What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives the signal from the front monitoring module (FSM) over the CAN network. The fault is stored when the signal from the FSM is faulty, and The code is also set by a CAN communication fault, or by a fault in the steering wheel module, the central electronics module, the brake control module or the transmission control module.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the ECM itself
- Temporary breaks or interference on one or both CAN wires on part of the network
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in connections
- The ECM is not intended for this car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment: read the CEM and other affected module fault codes, deal with them first, then clear this code
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault codes in the front monitoring module (FSM)
- 4Check that the connectors on the CAN network are firmly seated and not corroded
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no open circuit or short to each other
- 6If nothing is found, have a workshop check the CAN network and that the engine control module is intended for this particular car
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect2
- Cruise control is switched off
- Cruise control cannot be activated
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
