What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives cruise control information over CAN from several control modules, including the buttons on the steering wheel. The fault concerns a counter in the message that is not correct or is not being updated. The code is set when a CAN message reporting a fault in the cruise control buttons arrives.
Possible causes
- A sticking or locked cruise control button
- The message from the cruise control buttons has a wrong checksum
- Damaged cruise control button assembly
- Several buttons activated at the same time
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault status with the engine running and see whether the fault is active after a safe test drive using the buttons
- 3Press one cruise control button at a time and check that it returns fully
- 4Check that the connectors to the steering wheel button assembly are firmly seated and not corroded
- 5Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the cruise control button assembly and the CAN network
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
