What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives cruise control information over CAN, including from the buttons on the steering wheel. The code is set when a message about the cruise control buttons is invalid, which means the information cannot be used.
Possible causes
- A sticking or locked cruise control button
- The message from the cruise control buttons has a wrong checksum
- Damaged cruise control button assembly
- Several buttons activated at the same time
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Press the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel one at a time and check that they spring back
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault status with the engine running and check whether the fault is still present after a safe test drive
- 4Check that the connectors to the steering wheel button assembly are firmly seated and not corroded
- 5Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the cruise control button assembly
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
