What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads the cruise control input from the front monitoring module (FSM) over the CAN network. The code concerns a low signal from the FSM and is checked when the ignition is on. It can also be set by a CAN fault or a fault in the steering wheel module, the central electronics module, the brake control module or the transmission control module.
Possible causes
- Open circuit, short circuit or temporary interference on the CAN wires
- Internal fault in the ECM itself
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network, or a fault in the front monitoring module (FSM)
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in connections
- The ECM is not intended for this car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read out and deal with the fault codes in the central electronics module (CEM) and other affected modules first. Clear this code only once they have been dealt with
- 3Check that the connectors on the CAN network are firmly seated and not corroded
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no open circuit and are not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 5If nothing is found, have a workshop look for the fault in the front monitoring module (FSM) and check that the correct engine control module is fitted for this car
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect2
- Cruise control is switched off
- Cruise control cannot be activated
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
