What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives information from the front monitoring module (FSM) over the CAN network. The fault is stored when the signal from the FSM is above what is allowed, and it is tested with the ignition on.
Possible causes
- The fault may lie in the front monitoring module (FSM)
- Breaks or interference on the CAN wires
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in connections
- The ECM is not intended for this car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault codes in the front monitoring module (FSM) and deal with them first
- 3Check that the connectors on the CAN network and to the FSM are firmly seated and not corroded
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no open circuit or short to ground or supply voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the CAN network and that the correct engine control module is fitted for this car
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect2
- The cruise control function is switched off
- Cruise control cannot be activated
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
