What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the ECM finds a fault inside itself or in the throttle motor circuit. Consequence: the control module cuts the supply to the throttle motor, and the throttle goes to its spring-return position.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the ECM and the throttle body
- Open circuit or short to ground or supply voltage in the leads to the throttle motor
- The leads to the throttle motor are shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle body
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connector at the throttle body and look for loose connections and oxidation
- 3Look for chafed leads to the throttle motor
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the leads to the throttle motor are not in contact with each other or with ground or supply voltage
- 5Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the throttle body and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine performs poorly and lacks power
- Idle is uneven
What the fault can affect1
- The control module cuts the supply to the throttle motor, and the throttle goes to its spring-return position
