What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the 12-volt supply to the engine control module (ECM) is missing at ignition switch-on, or when the module finds an internal fault. It can be caused by a blown fuse, a break in the supply or a damaged module.
Possible causes
- Damaged fuse for the voltage supply
- Open circuit in the voltage wire
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the voltage wire to the control module for breaks, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether voltage reaches the control module when the ignition is switched on
- 4Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
