What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps checking a number of internal signals by calculating them and comparing them with one another, so the module stays reliable in use. The code is set when the internal checks give results that are not allowed, and
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Poorly charged battery or corroded connecting leads
- Software in the ECM has been damaged
What you can do
- 1Check the battery terminals and connections for corrosion and loose contacts
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment: read the code status after the module's internal test has been run
- 3Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop check the control module software and reload it if needed
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
Symptoms you may notice4
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- The engine performs poorly and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily, hard to tell when it happens
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Some internal signals in the engine control module are replaced with standard values
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
