What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has a processor with dual monitoring, level 1 and level 2. Several functions rely on this supervision, including the mass airflow sensor. The code is set when the level 1 result does not agree with level 2, and
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the connector to the mass airflow sensor is firmly seated and not corroded
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault status with the engine running and see whether the fault is active
- 4Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM), as the fault is cleared by replacing the module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- The engine performs poorly and lacks power
