What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named data memory error, it concerns the module's restart function. The ECM checks this function continuously, and the code is diagnosed with the ignition on.
Possible causes
- The ECM software is faulty
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment: read the fault status with the ignition on and see whether the fault is active
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop reload the module software
- 5If that does not help, have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
Symptoms you may notice4
- The environment lamp is lit
- The environment lamp flashes
- The engine stalls
- The starter motor cranks but the engine does not start
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module tries to restart itself
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
