What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has recorded a fault in its program memory. The fault concerns the internal reset function, which the module checks all the time. The code is checked when the ignition is switched on and is set while the fault is present.
Possible causes
- Faulty software in the ECM
- Damaged ECM
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the battery is charged and that the battery terminals and earth connections are clean and tight
- 3Check that the fuses for engine management are intact
- 4If the code comes back, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment reload the software in the ECM. If that does not help, the module needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) comes on
- Malfunction indicator lamp flashes
- The engine stalls
- Starter motor turns, yet the engine fails to start
What the fault can affect1
- The ECM tries to restart itself (reset)
