What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has two processor levels that monitor each other. The code is set if the internal communication between the two levels is faulty. The check only runs with the engine running, so the fault cannot be detected with the engine switched off.
Possible causes
- Damaged ECM
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test the car with the engine running to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the battery has enough charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 3Check that the fuses for engine management are intact
- 4If the fault comes back, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ECM. The fault is repaired by replacing the module
Symptoms you may notice3
- Malfunction indicator lamp (check engine) comes on or behaves abnormally
- Warning symbol and message in the display
- The car feels weak and lacks power
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
