What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has recorded an internal fault. The code is a general fault code for the module and does not state a more specific fault type. It can also be set while driving.
Possible causes
- Poorly charged battery or corroded connection cables
- Damaged software in the ECM
- Damaged ECM
What you can do
- 1Read the code with the ignition on and note whether it is active right now
- 2Check that the battery is charged and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 3Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 4If the fault comes back, have a workshop reload the software in the ECM. If that does not help, the module needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice3
- Malfunction indicator lamp (check engine) comes on or behaves abnormally
- Malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- The engine responds poorly to the accelerator pedal
What the fault can affect1
- Some internal signals in the ECM are replaced by default values
