What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has recorded an internal fault in the handling of bus and message traffic. The code is set while the fault is present. It is a general fault code for the module and does not give a more specific cause.
Possible causes
- Poorly charged battery or corroded connection cables
- Damaged software in the ECM
- Damaged ECM
What you can do
- 1Read the code with the ignition on and note whether it is active right now
- 2Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 3Clear the code and start the car again to see whether it returns
- 4If the fault comes back, have a workshop reload the software in the ECM. If that does not help, the module needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- Malfunction indicator lamp (check engine) comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Some internal signals in the ECM are replaced by default values
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
