What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has recorded a fault in its data memory. The code is set when the internal monitoring functions find current values that do not match their check values. The engine may then have a lower maximum speed and an uneven idle.
Possible causes
- Damaged ECM
- Poorly charged battery or corroded connection cables
- Damaged software in the ECM
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note whether it is active right now
- 2Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 3Check that the connectors at the ECM are tight and free from corrosion
- 4If the fault comes back, have a workshop replace the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- Maximum engine speed is lower than normal
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Idle is uneven
- Malfunction indicator lamp (check engine) comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Engine speed and torque are limited to a calculated reasonable value
- Some internal signals in the ECM are replaced by default values
