What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the signals from the accelerator pedal position sensors with each other, and the code is set when a difference between them does not agree. The fault is a general one and does not state a more specific fault type.
Possible causes
- Damaged ECM
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Break in the signal wire, supply or earth wire to the accelerator pedal
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Low battery voltage
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note whether it is active right now
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: follow the pedal values in live data while the pedal is pressed down and released. They should change smoothly
- 3Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 4Check that the connectors at the pedal and the ECM are tight and free from corrosion
- 5If the fault comes back, have a workshop check the pedal sensor and replace it if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- Maximum engine speed is lower than normal
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Idle is uneven
- The car feels weak and lacks power
