What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named a short circuit to earth, it applies when the signal from the throttle position sensor is too high or too low. The ECM reacts to the deviation and sets the code, and the fault may lie in the sensor, the wiring or the throttle unit.
Possible causes
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Break or short to earth on the supply or signal wire to the position sensor
- Break in the signal earth wire
- Damaged throttle unit
- If ECM-P060E12 is also stored: supply shorted to battery voltage, or signal wire shorted to voltage
What you can do
- 1Read the code with the ignition on and see whether it is active right now
- 2If you have a multimeter: check that the signal wire from the throttle position sensor is not shorted to earth and that the earth wire has no break
- 3Check that the connectors at the throttle unit and the ECM are tight and clean
- 4If the fault comes back, have a workshop check the throttle unit and replace it if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (check engine) comes on or behaves abnormally
