What does this fault code mean?
The ECM controls the signal to the starter relay coil, and the code is set when the signal from the starter relay is missing at engine start. The fault is a general one and does not state a more specific fault type.
Possible causes
- Break in the signal wire
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged starter relay
What you can do
- 1Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 2If you have a multimeter: check that the signal wire to the starter relay has no break
- 3Check that the connectors at the starter relay and the ECM are tight and clean
- 4If the fault comes back, have a workshop check the starter relay and replace it if needed
Symptoms you may notice2
- The starter motor does not turn
- The engine does not start, the starter motor does not crank and no clicking sound is heard when starting
