What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates an open circuit, meaning a break in the circuit, and it is set when the signal from the starter relay is missing at engine start. The fault may lie in the wire, in the connections or in the module.
Possible causes
- If ECM-P061712 is also stored: signal wire shorted to voltage
- If ECM-P061611 is also stored: signal wire shorted to earth
- Break in the signal wire, or contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Internal fault in the ECM
- If ECM-P061519 is also stored: contact resistance or oxidation in the connections, or an internal fault in the starter relay
What you can do
- 1Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 2If you have a multimeter: check that the signal wire to the starter relay has no break and is not shorted to earth or voltage
- 3Check that the connectors at the starter relay and the ECM are tight and clean
- 4If the fault comes back, have a workshop check the starter relay and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine stalls, either always or only sometimes
- The engine does not start, the starter motor does not crank and no clicking sound is heard when starting
- The engine cranks but does not start
- Auto start does not work
- Automatic engine stop and start does not work
What the fault can affect1
- Auto start is switched off
