What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has a drive stage for the starter relay built in, and supervision software checks that the drive stage does what the software requests. The code is set when this does not match. Although the code is named watchdog, it concerns the starter relay drive stage inside the module.
Possible causes
- Damaged ECM
- The software is faulty
What you can do
- 1Read the code with the ignition on and note whether it is active right now
- 2Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 3Have a workshop reload the software in the ECM, and replace it if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine does not start, either always or only sometimes, and the starter motor does not crank
- Clicking sound when starting
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- A service request appears in the instrument panel display
- Vehicle performance is limited if the fault remains for a longer period
