What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the ECM finds at start that the voltage on the starter relay signal wire stays above a limit for a set time. It is an electrical fault, and the signal wire may be shorted to voltage.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged starter relay
- Damaged ECM
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors at the starter relay and the ECM are tight and free from play and oxidation
- 2If you have a multimeter: check that the signal wire to the starter relay is not shorted to voltage
- 3Check that the battery is charged and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop replace the starter relay or check the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start, either always or only sometimes
What the fault can affect1
- Only manual starting is possible
