What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the signal from the starter relay through the earth wire, and the code is set when the signal is missing or wrong. The code indicates an open circuit, meaning a break, and the fault may lie in the earth wire between the module and the starter relay or in the relay itself.
Possible causes
- Break in the earth wire between the ECM and the starter relay
- Internal fault in the starter relay
What you can do
- 1Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 2If you have a multimeter: check that the earth wire between the ECM and the starter relay has no break
- 3Check the connections and wiring between the ECM and the starter relay for breaks and loose contacts
- 4If the fault cannot be found, have a workshop try a new starter relay
Symptoms you may notice3
- Auto start does not work
- The starter motor does not turn
- The engine does not start, either always or only sometimes, and the starter motor does not crank
