What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the LS signal, which drives the starter motor via the relay, is wrong, and the fault is detected at engine start. It is a general fault, and the signal wire may be shorted to earth or have a break.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Break in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Check the battery charge and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean
- 2If you have a multimeter: check that the signal wire to the starter relay is not shorted to earth and has no break
- 3Check that the connectors at the starter relay and the ECM are tight and clean
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not start, either always or only sometimes
- Automatic engine stop and start does not work, both while driving and at idle
