What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has found a fault in the HS line that drives the starter through the start relay, and the voltage on that signal cable is too low. While the fault is active, the engine may start poorly or not at all, and automatic start/stop does not work.
Possible causes
- The signal cable to the start relay is short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the starting system are intact
- 2With the ignition off, check that the connectors at the start relay and the control module are secure and free from corrosion and oxidation
- 3Look for chafed or pinched wiring in the signal cable to the start relay, especially where it may touch the body
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable to the start relay has no contact with ground (the body)
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the start relay and listen for it to click, then read the fault code again
- 6If the wiring is intact and the connectors are good but the fault remains: have a workshop check the start relay and the control module

- The engine does not start, either occasionally or all the time
- Automatic start/stop of the engine does not work while driving
- Automatic start/stop of the engine does not work at idle
