What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the LS line that drives the starter motor through the start relay when the engine is started. The fault is set when the signal cable has contact with voltage or is broken, so the signal does not match what the control module expects. The engine may have difficulty starting, and automatic start/stop may stop working.
Possible causes
- The signal cable is short-circuited to voltage
- Open circuit in the signal cable
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the starting system are intact
- 2With the ignition on, check the connectors at the start relay and the control module for loose connections, oxidation and contact resistance
- 3With the ignition on and using a multimeter, check that the signal cable is intact, meaning not broken, and has no contact with battery voltage
- 4Look for chafed wiring along the route between the control module and the start relay
- 5If the wiring is intact and the connectors are good but the fault remains: have a workshop check the start relay and the control module

- The engine does not start, sometimes or all the time
- Automatic start/stop of the engine does not work while driving
- Automatic start/stop of the engine does not work at idle
