What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault code is named as a processor or safety fault, the condition is that the transmission control module (TCM) has requested a higher engine speed to make downshifting easier, and the engine control module (ECM) does not allow the increase, for example because the vehicle speed is too low. The fault can make gear changes harsh or jerky.
Possible causes
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the transmission control module and the engine control module have the latest software, and have a workshop update the software if a newer version is available
- 2Check whether there are fault codes in the transmission control module (TCM) and remedy them first
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault code after the repair and test drive the car with a few downshifts to see whether the fault returns
- 4If the fault remains and no other fault codes are stored: have a workshop check or replace the engine or transmission control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The automatic transmission shifts harshly or jerkily, sometimes or all the time
