What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault is named as a supervision software fault, the condition concerns the torque request from the transmission control module (TCM). The transmission tells the engine control module about the extra torque load that arises during gear changes and asks for compensation. The fault is set when the engine control module detects an error in that request, which can show up as weaker performance when pulling away or gear changes at the wrong moments.
Possible causes
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check whether more fault codes are stored for the transmission control module (TCM) and remedy them first
- 2Have a workshop check whether a software update is available for the transmission and engine control modules
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault code after the repair and test drive the car with shifts from park to reverse and drive to see whether the fault returns
- 4If the fault remains after these checks: have a workshop determine whether the transmission or engine control module is damaged and replace it
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine lacks power when pulling away from standstill
- Gear changes happen too early, too late or too often
- Problems when shifting from park to reverse or drive
