What does this fault code mean?
This code is an event code meant as information, and it does not point to a fault that must be remedied in the control module where it is active. The transmission control module requests a higher engine speed to make downshifting easier, but the engine control module does not allow the increase, for example when the speed is too low.
Possible causes
- The engine control module refuses the speed increase, for example when the vehicle speed is too low
- Air leak in the intake manifold after the mass air flow sensor and the throttle unit
- Damaged throttle unit, mass air flow sensor, air pressure sensor, engine temperature sensor, coolant temperature sensor or flywheel sensor
- Damaged turbo control valve or wastegate pressure servo, or damaged VVT unit
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1There is no separate fault tracing for this code, since it is only an information code
- 2Check whether the transmission and engine control modules have the latest software, and have a workshop update them if a newer version exists
- 3Check whether there are fault codes in the transmission control module (TCM) and remedy them first
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the code after a few test-drive downshifts
- 5If shifting stays harsh or jerky: have a workshop check or replace the control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The automatic transmission shifts harshly or jerkily, sometimes or all the time
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque is limited, among other ways by fuel shut-off or the throttle position, and the maximum permitted torque depends on the accelerator pedal position
