What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module continuously monitors the signal from the crankshaft impulse sensor and compares it with a calculated value while the engine runs. The fault is set when the signal during the comparison does not match the calculated value, which means the engine speed monitoring is faulty. Engine output may be limited while the fault is active.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections or open circuit in the wiring to the crankshaft impulse sensor
- Contact resistance in the connections or open circuit in the wiring to the camshaft sensor
- Damaged impulse sensor or damaged camshaft sensor
- Damaged injection valves, since the signal from them is incorrect
- Internal fault or damage in the engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is in good condition and that the charging system works
- 2With the ignition on, check the connectors at the crankshaft impulse sensor and the camshaft sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Look for chafed or broken wiring to the crankshaft impulse sensor and the camshaft sensor
- 4With the ignition on and using a multimeter, check that the supply and ground wires to the camshaft sensor have no break
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: check in live data that engine speed is steady at idle and changes smoothly when you raise the throttle
- 6If the fault remains: have a workshop check the impulse sensor, the camshaft sensor and the engine control module

- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
