What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault code is named as a safety fault in the processor, the condition is that the engine produces a measured torque that is higher than the requested torque, taking the accelerator pedal position and engine speed into account. The fault is only checked in certain driving conditions. The code is probably a consequence that goes together with another fault code, and the root fault should be remedied first.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake manifold after the mass air flow sensor and the throttle unit
- Damaged throttle unit or mass air flow sensor
- Damaged intake manifold air pressure sensor, engine temperature sensor or flywheel sensor
- Damaged turbo control valve or wastegate pressure servo
- Damaged VVT unit
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check whether other fault codes are stored and remedy the root fault first, since this code is probably set together with it
- 2Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the mass air flow sensor for looseness and oxidation, and look for leaks in the intake manifold
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status of the code after the repair and check that the fault is no longer active
- 4If the fault remains after the repair: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily, sometimes or all the time
- The engine lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- The throttle position restricts how much torque the engine can deliver
