What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module's internal monitoring has registered that its calculated engine speed monitoring is faulty. The code is set when the speed calculated by the internal monitoring differs from the speed calculated by the normal engine control functions. The same check is also made by comparing the crankshaft impulse sensor signal with a calculated value.

Possible causes

Contact resistance in the connections or open circuit in the wiring to the impulse sensor or camshaft sensor
Damaged impulse sensor or camshaft sensor
Internal fault or damage in the engine control module (ECM)
Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
Open circuit or short circuit to ground or voltage on the signal wire, or on the supply wire
Open circuit in the ground wire, or the ground wire is short-circuited to voltage

What you can do

1With the ignition on, check the connectors at the impulse sensor and the camshaft sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
2Look for chafed or broken wiring to the impulse sensor and the camshaft sensor
3With a multimeter and the ignition off, check that the supply and ground wires to the camshaft sensor are not broken
4Check that the fuses are intact
5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the engine speed in live data at idle and with light throttle, and check that it follows the throttle
6If the fault remains after these checks: have a workshop read the engine control module with diagnostic equipment and decide whether it needs replacing
