What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault code is named as a safety fault in the processor, the condition is that the engine control module's internal monitoring has registered faulty speed monitoring. The causes are mainly the impulse sensor and the camshaft sensor with their wiring, or the control module itself. Engine output may be limited while the fault is active.
Possible causes
- Poor contact (raised contact resistance) or a break in the wiring to the impulse sensor
- Raised contact resistance or a break in the wiring to the camshaft sensor
- Damaged impulse sensor or damaged camshaft sensor
- Internal fault or damage in the engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2With the ignition on, check the connectors at the impulse sensor and the camshaft sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Look for chafed or broken wiring to the impulse sensor and the camshaft sensor
- 4After the repair: read the diagnostic status and fault status with a diagnostic tool. The fault should be gone once the diagnosis is complete
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop read the engine control module with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily, sometimes or all the time
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output is limited
