What does this fault code mean?
The transmission control module (TCM) can ask for a higher engine speed before a downshift, and the request is sent to the engine control module over the CAN network. The code concerns the engine control module not allowing the increase for some reason, for example when the speed is too low. The fault can be noticed during gear changes.
Possible causes
- No specific cause is stated for this code
What you can do
- 1Check whether the transmission and engine control modules have the latest software, and have a workshop update them if needed
- 2Check whether there are fault codes in the transmission control module (TCM) and remedy them first
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the diagnostic status and fault status after the repair, and check that the fault is no longer active once the diagnosis is complete
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether any of the control modules is damaged, and replace it if needed
Symptoms you may notice3
- The automatic transmission shifts harshly or jerkily, sometimes or all the time
- Gear changes happen too early, too late or too often, sometimes or all the time
- Gear changes take too long to complete, sometimes or all the time
