What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module receives information from the forward sensing module (FSM) over the CAN network, and the FSM asks for engine braking when needed. The fault is set when such a request stays active longer than allowed, or when communication with the brake control module (BCM) is disturbed or missing. The code can only be cleared once the root fault has been remedied.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in connections
- Fault in the controller area network (CAN)
- Damaged forward sensing module (FSM)
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires, or a short circuit between the CAN wires
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, you can read the diagnostic status and fault status and see whether the fault is still present
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break and are not short-circuited to each other
- 3Check the connectors at the forward sensing module (FSM) and in the CAN connectors for looseness and oxidation
- 4Fault tracing in the brake control module (BCM) should be done by a workshop. Do not work on the braking system's control module yourself
- 5Remedy the root fault first and then clear the code, since it cannot be cleared until the root fault is remedied
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cruise control will not engage
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control switches off while the fault is active
