What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the signals from the throttle unit and finds that the feedback throttle position does not change, even though the control tries to change it. The fault therefore concerns the throttle's movement and its sensors. It can show up as poor performance, hesitation or the cruise control not working. The fault only occurs in certain operating situations.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film, dust or ice
- Incorrectly adapted throttle unit
- Damaged throttle unit
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, look for any object blocking the throttle, and press the throttle plate gently to see whether it sticks
- 2Clean the throttle unit if it is contaminated
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the throttle position reading in live data and check that the value changes sensibly when the accelerator pedal is pressed and released
- 4If the fault code remains, the adaptation may be wrong: have a workshop reset and redo the throttle unit adaptation with diagnostic equipment
- 5If the fault remains after the repair: have a workshop check the throttle unit and the engine control module

- The engine lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily, sometimes or all the time
- The idle speed is high, sometimes or all the time
- The cruise control does not work at all, and it will not engage
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
What the fault can affect2
- The cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
- The power supply to the throttle unit is cut, so the throttle plate moves to its spring-return position
