What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module regularly adapts the throttle unit, partly to keep track of the limit positions. The fault is set when the adaptation values end up outside what is permitted, which can cause engine torque to be limited. It can show up as poor performance or jerky running.
Possible causes
- The throttle plate binds or is jammed in the throttle unit
- Damaged throttle unit
- Incorrect type of sensor installed
- Damaged position sensor
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on you can read the diagnostic status and fault status and check whether the fault is still active
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the throttle position in live data and see whether the value follows the accelerator smoothly
- 4Check that the throttle moves freely and does not bind, and that the throttle unit is not damaged
- 5Have a workshop check the position sensor and the throttle unit, since the fault may be due to an incorrect type of sensor being fitted
Symptoms you may notice3
- Poor performance
- The engine lacks power, particularly when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed, sometimes or all the time
What the fault can affect1
- Torque is limited
