What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the drive signal to the fuel pump control module and sets the fault code when it registers a fault on that signal. The fault means the PWM signal from the engine control module is too high. It can be caused by a short-circuited or broken signal wire, a damaged fuel pump control module, or a fault registered by the CEM.
Possible causes
- A fault logged by the central electronic module (CEM)
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the signal wire
- Damaged fuel pump control module
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Check whether the CEM has stored fault codes for the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay, and remedy them first
- 2With the ignition off, look at the connector to the fuel pump control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With the ignition off and using a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no contact with supply voltage and is not broken
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pump load signal in live data at warm idle and see whether it is at a normal level
- 5If the fault remains after these checks: have a workshop decide whether the fuel pump control module needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice4
- The starter motor cranks but the engine does not start
- The engine stalls, while driving or when starting
- The engine does not start, sometimes or all the time
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
