What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module supplies the injectors through two integrated high-power output stages and constantly checks that the signal matches when injection takes place. The fault code is set when the module detects a fault in the signal to the injectors, an internal fault, or a communication fault with a control circuit. Engine output and speed may then be limited, and in some cases injection is switched off.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM), or an internal fault in it
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged or incorrect control circuit (chip)
- Open or short circuit to voltage, or open or short circuit in the ground wire
- A damaged fuse may cause the fault code
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the engine control are intact
- 2With the ignition on, check the connectors at the injectors for contact resistance, oxidation and looseness
- 3Look for chafed wiring to the injectors and check that the control signal wires are not short-circuited to each other
- 4With a multimeter, check that the ground wire and the voltage supply to the injectors have no break or short circuit
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault status after the repair and check that the fault is no longer active when the test is complete
- 6If the fault remains: have a workshop check or replace the engine control module
