What does this fault code mean?
The control module keeps watch over the fuel injection system, including the integrated end stages for the injectors and their injection volume. The fault code is set when an error occurs in the internal voltage conversion of the module or when the injection time is wrong. The fault can make the engine hard to start or cause hesitation.
Possible causes
- A fault inside the engine control module (ECM)
- Loose connections, or contact resistance and oxidation in the terminals
- Open circuit in the signal wire (+) or in the signal wire (-)
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2With the ignition on, check the connectors at the injectors for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wires to the injectors have no break
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault status after the repair and see whether it has cleared when the test is complete
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop check the injectors and the engine control module with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice5
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- The engine does not start, but the starter motor turns
- The engine is hard to start and the starter motor cranks slowly, especially on a cold start
- The engine lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed, sometimes or all the time
What the fault can affect1
- Engine speed may be limited
